iCloud sync

How Newsbin keeps your feeds, folders, tags, and read state in sync across every device — privately.

Updated

Newsbin syncs through your own iCloud account. There’s no Newsbin server in the middle and no third-party account to create — your data stays between your devices and Apple’s iCloud.

Everything syncs: your feeds, folders, tags, smart groups, blocklists, and read/unread state.

Setup

Sync works automatically as long as you’re signed in to iCloud and iCloud Drive is enabled for Newsbin:

  • iOS/iPadOS: Settings → (your name) → iCloud → make sure Newsbin is enabled.
  • Mac: System Settings → (your name) → iCloud → iCloud Drive → Options → Newsbin.

Use the same Apple Account on every device and they’ll converge on their own.

Why the first sync can be slow

Newsbin stores your library in Apple’s SwiftData database, which syncs over iCloud much like iCloud Photos. The first time you set up a new device — especially with a large library — it can take a while for everything to appear. This is normal, and it speeds up dramatically once the initial sync completes.

To jump-start a new device, you can export your database from an existing device and import it on the new one; iCloud reconciles the rest.

If devices seem out of sync

  • Confirm every device uses the same Apple Account and has Newsbin enabled for iCloud.
  • Make sure each device has a working network connection and isn’t in Low Data / Low Power mode, which can defer sync.
  • Give it time after a big import — like Photos, iCloud syncs in the background at its own pace.
  • Two devices on the same network? Nearby sync can move data between them directly.

Your data is portable no matter what — see Backup & export.
