Managing read status & filters
Keep your timeline focused — mark articles read or unread, and switch between unread-only and all.
Updated
Newsbin keeps your reading tidy by tracking what you’ve seen and letting you choose how much to show.
Read and unread
- Opening an article marks it read.
- You can mark items read or unread yourself to keep your list meaningful — save something for later, or clear out a batch you’re not interested in.
- Read status syncs across your devices through iCloud, so an article you read on your iPhone won’t be waiting for you on your Mac.
Show unread only, or everything
Newsbin can display unread only — the default for a clean, inbox-style flow — or all articles, including ones you’ve already read. Switch between them from the list’s display options.
This choice also affects smart groups and folders: in unread-only mode they show only their unread matches; switch to all and you’ll see everything that matches, read or not.
Tips
- Use unread only for daily triage; switch to all when you’re hunting for something you know you read before.
- Pair filters with smart groups to carve a busy timeline into focused, subject-based views.
