Nearby sync
Move your library between two of your devices directly when they're on the same network.
Updated
Nearby sync lets two of your devices exchange Newsbin data directly when they’re close together on the same local network — a fast way to bring a new device up to speed without waiting on the full iCloud round-trip.
It’s especially useful right after you set up Newsbin on a new device, when the initial iCloud sync of a large library can take a while.
Using it
- Open Newsbin on both devices and make sure they’re on the same Wi-Fi network (or otherwise nearby).
- Start nearby sync from Settings on both devices.
- The devices discover each other and reconcile their libraries directly.
Good to know
- Nearby sync complements iCloud — it doesn’t replace it. iCloud remains your ongoing, always-on sync; nearby sync is a direct boost between two devices in the same place.
- Both devices should be signed in to the same Apple Account.
- Because it works over the local network, both devices need to be awake with Newsbin open.
If a device won’t appear, confirm both are on the same network, both have Newsbin open in the foreground, and local network access is permitted for Newsbin in system Settings.
