How Postout keeps drafts clean
What Postout strips out of AI writing before you see it, and why some platforms keep markdown while others don't.
Updated
AI writing has tells: habits that make a post read as machine-written the moment someone sees it. Postout works to remove them in two ways.
Before the draft is written
The instructions Postout sends to your AI provider ask it to avoid common tells: throat-clearing openers, filler, stock phrases nobody says out loud, and made-up facts or links. Your personality profile and post settings go along with those instructions.
After the draft is written
Instructions alone aren’t reliable, so Postout also cleans every draft after it comes back, before you see it. That pass removes things like:
- Em-dashes and double hyphens, which are the most recognizable AI habit
- Stray markdown such as
**bold**,#headings, and backticks, on platforms that would show them as literal symbols
Markdown, where it belongs
Some platforms render formatting, like Reddit, GitHub, Dev.to, Medium, Substack, Slack, and Discord. For those, drafts can keep bold, lists, and headings. Everywhere else, formatting is stripped so you don’t paste asterisks into a post.
Each platform has a Supports Markdown switch in its settings if you want to change this. See Platforms and templates.
Still read it
No filter is perfect, and AI can still get facts wrong or say something you wouldn’t. Read every draft before you post it. That’s the step that makes it yours.
