Tone tags
Steer a single draft funnier, bolder, or more professional without touching your personality profile.
Updated
Your personality profile describes how you write in general. Tone tags adjust one draft at a time. Announcing a launch? Add Excited. Writing for LinkedIn? Add Professional. The profile stays the same.
Using tone tags
Open Post settings next to the compose bar and pick one or more tags under Tone, then create your draft. The tags are saved with the draft, so you can filter History by tone later.
If you don’t pick any, and Settings → General → Auto-Generate Tone is on, Postout chooses a tone that fits your idea.
Adding and editing tags
Manage your tags in Settings → Tone Tags:
- Add: type a name in New Tag and press Return. One or two words work best: Dry, Heartfelt, Nerdy, Understated.
- Rename or delete: use the menu next to any tag.
- Clear All: removes every tag at once.
You can also add one from the + menu in the sidebar, and tags created by Auto-Generate Tone show up in this list too.
Deleting a tag doesn’t change drafts that already used it.
