Getting Started

Your first draft

The welcome flow, what each setup step does, and how to go from an idea to a draft you can paste.

Updated

The first time you open Postout, a short welcome flow walks you through setup. Every step can be skipped and changed later in Settings.

The welcome flow

  1. Add Your AI Model. Postout writes with the AI you pick. Tap Add a Provider to choose Apple Intelligence or paste an API key for Claude, OpenAI, Gemini, or a custom endpoint. More in Choosing an AI provider.
  2. Make It Sound Like You. Take the ten-question personality questionnaire. It takes a minute or two, and it’s the single biggest improvement you can make to your drafts. More in Your personality profile.
  3. One Idea, Many Drafts and Pick Up Where You Left Off introduce platforms, topics, tone tags, history, and sync.
  4. These Are Drafts, Not Final Posts. A reminder that the finishing touch is yours.
  5. Free for a Week. Your seven-day free trial starts here. You can also buy the lifetime unlock or restore an earlier purchase on this screen. More in Pricing and unlocking.

Add the places you post

Before your first draft, tell Postout where you post. Open Settings → Social Platforms and tap Add Platform, or use the + menu in the sidebar. Pick a template like Bluesky, LinkedIn, or Instagram from the Template menu, and Postout fills in the character limit, writing style, and website for you. Add as many as you like. More in Platforms and templates.

Writing your first draft

  1. Click or tap the compose bar at the bottom of the window. The placeholder reads What do you want to say?
  2. Type your idea the way you’d say it to a friend. A sentence or two is plenty: “Shipped dark mode today, took three tries to get the contrast right.”
  3. Press Return (or tap Create).

Postout writes a draft for every enabled platform at once. Each one appears as a card with the platform’s name and color. While it works, the compose bar shows which provider is writing, for example Creating with Claude…

Using a draft

Every card has a Copy button. Copy the text, open the app or site you post from, paste, and give it a final read. To jump straight to the site, use Copy and Open from the card’s … menu. See Copy, open, and post.

Not quite right? Edit the card directly, or Reroll it for a fresh take. See Editing and rerolling drafts.

If nothing happens

  • “API Key Needed”: the selected provider needs a key. Add it in Settings → Models.
  • “No platforms are enabled”: turn at least one on in Settings → Social Platforms.
  • The unlock screen appears: your free week has ended. See Pricing and unlocking.

Still stuck? See Troubleshooting.
