iCloud sync

How Postout keeps your drafts, platforms, topics, tone tags, and personality profile in sync across your devices, privately.

Updated

Postout syncs through your own iCloud account. There’s no Postout server and no account to create. Your data stays between your devices and Apple’s iCloud.

What syncs

  • Every draft in History, including your edits
  • Platforms, topics, and tone tags
  • Your personality profile and the Post Settings switches (emojis, grammar, acronyms, hashtags)
  • Your free-trial start date, so every device shares the same week

What stays on each device

  • General settings like Platform Colors, Glow Effect, Auto-Open After Copy, and sort orders. Each device can be set up the way that suits it.
  • API keys, unless you turn on iCloud Keychain sync in Settings → Models. See Adding an API key.

Setup

Sync works automatically when every device is signed in to the same Apple Account with iCloud turned on. There’s nothing to set up in Postout.

  • iPhone and iPad: Settings → (your name) → iCloud, and make sure iCloud Drive is on.
  • Mac: System Settings → (your name) → iCloud.

If a device isn’t catching up

  • Check that it’s signed in to the same Apple Account as your other devices.
  • Open Postout and leave it open for a minute. Sync runs in the background but is fastest while the app is active.
  • Make sure the device has a network connection and isn’t in Low Power Mode, which can delay background sync.
  • A fresh install can take a little while to download a large History.

Resets are synced too. If you use Reset All Settings or Factory Reset on one device, your other devices clear their copies the next time they sync. See Resetting Postout.
